I applied Very Red to a valve cover for a Pontiac hood emblem design, and after baking it was not glossy and was like a redish brown clay color. What temperature is this powder supposed to be baked at? I have a feeling that I baked it at too high of a temperature.

Like most of our powders, Very Red should not be baked at temperatures higher than 400F. The stated cure times are based off of part metal temp. In the average oven, the overall bake time will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-30 mins for aluminum valve covers, but you will have to check part metal temp to know when to start your curing timer. Also be aware of the fact that placing parts too close to heating elements or burners in the oven can expose them to excess heat even if your oven temp is set correctly. Burners and elements will get a lot hotter and can burn powder if the proximity is too close.
