How accurate is your mil thickness coating gauge?
Answer from NIC Industries Inc.
Our Mil Thickness Coating Gauge does a very good job at it’s intended purpose. It’s important that these gauges are calibrated correctly once received to ensure that accuracy is present from the get-go.
We have a great write-up for the gauge we offer on our website under the ‘Knowledge Base’ section.
I’ve provided a link for your reference:

When measuring with your Mil gauge SE-421 does this have to touch the part you are checking? If so wouldn't that leave a mark on the part being checked if the powder is not cured?
Answer from Admin
Measuring the mil thickness of a powder is an important step in the powder application process. I like to pull a part from the oven at flow-out, allow to cool then inspect to see if there are areas that need touching up or additional powder. Part of this inspection involves taking some mil thickness measurements using the SE-421 Mil gauge. When checking the tool touches the finish but digitally reads the substrate below. When cooled the flowed-out powder is hard and will not be affected by the gentle touch of the mil gauge SE-421.
