Q: Why does my Illusion/Dormant color look silver?

A: A top coat has not been applied. Be sure to read the Illusion/Dormant Series Application Guide.

Q: Why does the color not look like the color swatch?

A: Common causes for color inconsistencies are:

Clear coat not applied
Clear not applied at the proper time
Either the base or top coat not applied heavily enough.
It is important to make sure that the proper cure schedule is followed. Insufficient cure time/temp can cause color variations.

Q: Do Illusion/Dormant Powders need a base coat?

A: Illusion/Dormant powders do not require a base coat, they only require a top coat.

APPLICATION SUGGESTIONS:

We always recommend the use of a fluidizer which will aid in the circulation (fluidization) of the metallic and pigment colors to help keep everything consistent throughout the mixture. Other systems like cup or box fed systems can cause metallic particles to settle or separate, which can lead to an inconsistent finish.

Do your best to keep the same coating thickness throughout the part.

Varying mil thickness in different areas of the same part can lead to a change in appearance if either the base or the top coat is too thin. As long as the minimum mil thickness is met for both the Illusion/Dormant coat and the top coat, and the cure time/temp is accurate, your results should be very close to the color swatch.

There can be slight variations in color based on a number of other factors, but overall it should be very close.
