Hey everyone Kirk here. Today we're going to go through just a brief overview of some of the essential equipment that we think every powder coating shop should have. The IR temp gun or an IR thermometer is one. A mil thickness tester or mil gauge is another, and lastly, a fluidizer.
So we'll start here with the fluidizer. We have in a couple of videos actually covering this one but just to kind of reiterate it and why it's so important. Fluidizers really help you to fine-tune the consistency of the powder and when you're dealing with a lot of different types of powder you need to be able to have that adjustability.
Okay, so the next piece of equipment is the IR temp gun. This is important for your curing, you need to be able to accurately gauge part temperature. Our care schedules, if you reference our technical datasheets, which we have a video on, they are based on part temp. You've got an important combination of time and temperature. The only way to really know what your temperature is is to shoot the part with the device like this. Temperature probes are not really that effective because they only show the ambient temperature of that specific area of your oven. These will actually give you the part temperature, so these are very important to have.
This here is a mil thickness tester, use this to test the coating thickness. It's in thousandths of an inch, or mils. Coating thickness is very important to coating performance and appearance. Usually, if someone has a question about whether it finishes right, if they're having an issue, it doesn't look correct, we'll have them gauge the coating thickness to make sure it's within the range that we recommend.
