Out of our massive collection of over 6500 colors and coating options, there are a few basic rules that need to be followed that differ from the norm for certain powder applications. Below is a list of 'Do's and Don'ts' for these specific powder selections.
Super Chrome Plus (UMS-10671):
- Must be fully cured prior to applying a top coat.
- Must be clear coated or top-coated to prevent oxidation.
Ultra Black Chrome (USS-5204):
- Recommend at least a 75% cure prior to adding a clear or top coat.
- Clear coat recommended to prevent oxidation.
Wrinkle Finishes:
- Must be Applied over bare metal substrate (no base coat or primer below).
- No Clear coat or top coat (this will alter the inherent wrinkle finish).
- Slightly heavier application will help with preventing substrate exposure in the low spots of the finish (3-4mils).
- Epoxy versions should not be exposed to UV and must be ramped in an oven to obtain proper look/finish.
Illusion Series (including Fractured Illusions):
- Must be applied over bare metal substrate.
- Must have a clear top coat applied to achieve the expected color. Overall finish and gloss level will vary depending on clear coat used.
- Base coat brought to flow-out + 4 minutes.
- Important to achieve a 2-3 mil thickness for both the base coat and clear coat otherwise variation of color can change heavily.
Silver Metallics:
- Clear coat recommended on most to prevent oxidation.
- Flow-out timing varies with metallic flake volume.
- Hiding properties can vary from color to color.
Neon and other Bright Fluorescent Colors:
- Clear Vision (PPS-2974) recommended for extended UV protection.
- Substrate reaching recommended cure temperature important to achieve expected color.
