What is Powder Coating Transfer Efficiency?
Transfer efficiency can be expressed by a percentage or ratio between the amounts of powder being sprayed during application vs. the amount of powder that the part takes during the coating process.
Transfer efficiency is usually adjusted by increasing the KV output limit of the spray gun. Some powder coating systems also allow you to adjust the micro-amps along with the KV's.
KV's effectively set the limit of voltage where the micro-amps are the working current. Increasing the transfer efficiency is helpful when spraying parts with a large surface area, but issues such as back ionization can arise when the wrong setting for the given situation are used.
