Out of the over 6500 color and coating options in our Powder Coating line-up there are a few basic rules that need to be followed that differ from the norm for certain powder applications. Below is a list of Do's and Don'ts for these specific Powder selections.
Super Chrome Plus UMS-10671:
- Must Be Fully Cured prior to applying a top coat
- Must Be Clear Coated or Top-Coated to prevent oxidation
Ultra Black Chrome USS-5204:
- Recommend at least a 75% Cure prior to adding a Clear or Top Coat
- Clear Coat recommended to prevent oxidation
Wrinkle Finishes
- Must be Applied over bare metal substrate (no base coat or primer below)
- No Clear Coat or Top Coat (this will alter the patterned wrinkle texture)
- Slightly heavier application will help with preventing substrate exposure in the low spots of the finish
- Epoxy versions should not be exposed to UV
Illusion/Dormant Series (including Fractured Illusion)
- Must be applied over bare metal substrate
- Must have a Clear Coat or Top Coat applied to achieve the expected color
- Base coat brought to Flow-out +2 minutes
- Important to achieve a 2-3 mil thickness for both the base coat and clear coat
Silver Metallics
- Clear Coat recommended on most to prevent oxidation
- Flow-out timing varies with metallic flake volume
- Hiding properties can vary from color to color
Neons and other Bright Colors
- Clear Vision PPS-2974 recommended for extended UV protection
- Substrate reaching recommended cure temperature important to achieve expected color
